The Sixth USS Boston Reclassified:  (CAG-1) After major modifications to USS Boston (CA-69) updated her into a high-tech Guided Missile Cruiser, she was classified USS Boston CAG-1. Known best for her participation in the 1958 campaign to rescue U.S. citizens in Beirut, Lebanon and the 1961 Bay of Pigs operation, she last served in the Vietnam war. She was reclassified back to CA-69 in 1968 and decommissioned not long after. She was scrapped in 1974.
 
This painting of the world’s first guided missile cruiser was one of seven paintings by the artist depicting the different ships in US history that carried the name ‘Boston’. In this painting the cruiser is portrayed practice firing at sea in the late 1950s.
